We are pleased to announce that this year’s Annual OSHA Training will be presented by Daniel C. Shea, MPH, LFD, CCSP, and Associate Professor of Funeral Service at Cape Cod Community College
OSHA training is an annual federally mandated requirement. There is no question that OSHA is gearing up for greater enforcement, higher penalties, possibly as a revenue source, and is moving away from the voluntary compliance concept that was prevalent in the last eight years. All these items will one way or another affect funeral service. Please note that if an inspector visits your funeral home requesting proof that you attended Annual OSHA training in this calendar year, you will need to be prepared to show a certificate of training that will be provided to you following this year’s Training. Upon completion of the seminar, you will receive one (1) continuing education credit for your participation and attendance. This is important since you will need a total of five (5) credits prior to renewing your Rhode Island Funeral Director/Embalmer license in December 2025.
Participants are guaranteed to get information they can use immediately to improve OSHA compliance. Vital information on protection and operation standards in a COVID-19 world, a heavy emphasis on the infectious agents that are of the most threat to an embalmer, policies, procedures and safety measures with a deep dive into best practices with the how and why. Topics in the deep dive include proper PPE, sanitization, work practice and engineering controls.
All Rhode Island licensed funeral directors will be eligible to receive one (1) Continuing Education Unit based on their participation in the training during the entire one (1) hour of training. All attendees will receive Certificates based on their participation in the training room during the entire one (1) hour of training.
